Hawes Florist was established in 1934 by Leroy Hawes.  Vic Tomyl started working as a young boy at Hawes and was taught design by Mr. Hawes and Phil Morrison. He has been there since then with the exception of his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean war.

His love of the town, knowledge of the people and appreciation of diversity has allowed him to serve not only Maynard but also the surrounding towns.

In 1961 Vic and his wife Marion assumed ownership of Hawes Florist, and with their growing children it became a family affair.  Now his daughter Melissa is carrying on the next generation.  He has participated in the Beacon Telethon for many years, demonstrating ways to do Christmas arrangements as well as teaching how to choose a certain type of green or why to use a particular type of flower.

A long time member of FTD, Hawes Florist received awards from that organization.  His designs are made with his customers desires in mind for any specific occasion at all.
